We are looking for an enthusiastic and customer-focused barista to join our team! As a barista, you will be responsible for preparing high-quality coffee, beverages, and light food items while delivering excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment. Your role will include creating a welcoming atmosphere, ensuring cleanliness, and contributing to the overall café experience for our guests.

 

Who are Da Coffi?

 

Da Coffi is an independent coffee shop that celebrates community, collaboration, and—of course—coffee! We serve expertly brewed coffee from Coaltown Coffee, locally sourced food, and provide a warm, inviting atmosphere. Our first location opened in 2023 at One Central Square, Cardiff, as part of the vibrant Tramshed Tech community.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Lead Barista to join our team! As a Lead Barista, you will oversee daily operations at the café, ensuring high-quality coffee, beverages, and food are prepared while maintaining excellent customer service. You will lead a team of baristas, ensuring efficient service, proper food prep, and adherence to café standards. In this role, you’ll be responsible for training, supervising, and ensuring the café runs smoothly.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Beverage and Food Preparation:

    • Lead the preparation of a variety of hot and cold beverages, including espresso drinks, teas, and specialty beverages, following company recipes and customer preferences.

    • Supervise the preparation of light food items such as sandwiches, salads, pastries, and snacks. Ensure food is prepared according to health and safety standards.

  • Team Leadership:

    • Train, mentor, and guide baristas in beverage and food preparation, customer service, and café operations.

    • Delegate tasks to team members, ensuring productivity and efficiency during shifts.

    • Support new hires by providing hands-on training in beverage crafting, food prep, and café procedures.

  • Customer Service Excellence:

    • Ensure all team members deliver excellent customer service, addressing any concerns or requests in a timely and friendly manner.

    • Handle any escalated customer complaints or issues, ensuring customer satisfaction.

  • Inventory and Stock Management:

    • Oversee the monitoring of inventory levels for coffee, food ingredients, and other supplies. Ensure proper restocking and place orders when necessary.

    • Manage waste and minimize product loss by enforcing portion control and correct food storage procedures.

  • Cash Handling and Financial Reporting:

    • Ensure accurate payment procedures are followed by all staff. Balance the cash register and report any discrepancies to the Café Manager.

    • Assist with daily financial reporting, sales goals, and tracking performance metrics.

  • Maintain Cleanliness and Organisation:

    • Ensure all areas of the café, including the food prep area, are kept clean, organised, and compliant with health and safety regulations.

    • Oversee the proper maintenance of equipment and report any repair needs.

  • Enforce Health and Safety Standards:

    • Ensure all team members adhere to food safety, sanitation, and hygiene practices.

    • Conduct routine checks to guarantee that food and beverages are prepared and stored according to local health codes.

 

Qualifications:

  • Previous Experience:

    • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a barista, including food prep, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.

    • Experience in a café or foodservice environment is required.

  • Skills:

    • Strong leadership and team management skills.

    • Excellent customer service and communication abilities.

    • Proficient in beverage crafting, food preparation, and handling cash transactions.

    • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of Food Safety:

    • Familiarity with food safety regulations and practices.

    • Food handler certification is preferred or required depending on local regulations.

  • Flexibility:

    • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
