Network Aims to Boost Inclusivity in Data and Tech Roles

A new network is set to be launched which aims to support people from diverse and underrepresented groups to thrive in data and technology-related roles.

Tramshed Tech and Hodge Bank have joined forces with Cardiff Capital Region (CCR) to launch the Data Inclusivity Network.

The partners say the move is designed to address a lack of diversity in data and technology-related sectors and aims to foster an inclusive community.

The Data Inclusivity Network will officially launch with The Big Breakfast Banquet on Thursday, 11th July at Tramshed Tech's Innovation Station in Newport.

The event is aimed at attendees who work or aspire to work within data, and the organisers say it offers an opportunity to connect, learn, and actively contribute to driving diversity in data and tech-related roles.

The Data Inclusivity Network will also support the professional development of those already working in the fields and seeks to attract and inspire new talent pools.

Louise Harris, CEO and Founder of Tramshed Tech, said:

“Wales is home to a wealth of incredible female leaders, but we recognise the urgent need to address underrepresentation and lack of diverse perspectives in data and, more broadly, technology.

“By creating a supportive network, we aim to provide a safe space for open discussions, facilitate meaningful connections, and empower individuals to embrace their authenticity and pursue their aspirations without barriers.”

Laura Alexander, Head of Data Services at Hodge Bank, said:

“My personal experience makes this such an important venture for me as it is truly close to my heart. We all deserve equity so Louise, the network and I aim to welcome all aspects of diversity here in South-East Wales. We are stronger together after all.”

CCR said the formation of the network aligns with its ambition to increase data capability and showcase the region as a welcoming and inclusive environment for anyone wishing to enter or develop their skills in this field.

Councillor Mary Ann Brocklesby, Chair of CCR, said:

“Inclusive data and the diverse networks needed to drive it are vital to today’s information society and I am pleased CCR and its partners are giving this the profile and focus it merits.”

Aimee Bateman, Founder of Careercake, is a keynote speaker at the launch event. She will be talking about her experience as a female tech founder in Wales as well as challenges faced when raising investment.

Following the keynote, a panel discussion will take place with Matt Davies, CEO of Hapus People; Ria Burrage-Male, Director and Founder of KIBO; Dave Sadler, Director at Sadler Recruitment; Josh Boyland-King, Head of Sponsorship at Pride Cymru; and Kararina Svistseva, Founder of The Data Gals.

Councillor Dimitri Batrouni, Leader of Newport City Council, who will also participate in the network, added:

“It is only through an inclusive approach that we positively impact and improve the data landscape to drive improved access to services, enhanced equality outcomes, positive climate actions and broaden the diversity of thought that ensures every person is seen, heard and counted.”

The Data Inclusivity Network is part-funded by the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund.
